Gum swelling is a rather common problem, and this happens when the gums become thicker than normal because it packs more blood vessels than normal. When this happens, the gums may bulge out our protrude, or otherwise have a redder shade as compared to the normal pink color. The cause of this swelling can come from many sources, but when it does happen, the gums become irritated, more sensitive, and even painful. There are even instances when the gums bleed easier when you’re simply brushing your teeth, or even when you’re eating and chewing. The good news is that there are some natural remedies that you can take advantage of in order to reduce the swelling found in your gums. Read on to find out what these are.
Natural Remedies to Use in Order to Reduce Gum Swelling
A natural and very inexpensive way to treat gum swelling is by using warm compress. To use this, start by soaking a clean cloth within warm water, and then wring out the excess liquid. Now just hold the cloth against your face as to where the gums are swelling. As an alternative, you can use a cold compress or frozen peas that are wrapped in a thin towel. Just like using the warm compress, hold the cold compress or the bag of peas against your face where the swelling is near. Hold it against your face until you feel the pain numbing away. For the warm compress, hold it against your face for 5-minutes. Otherwise, when you’re using the cold compress, just repeat the cycle for 2- to 3-times more.
Another natural remedy for swollen gums is by gargling on salt water. Salt is an effective remedy when your gums are swollen. This is because salt can inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth and would further prevent infections, which would otherwise contribute to more oral health issues. Just add half-a-teaspoon of salt into a glass of lukewarm water, then use the solution to rinse your mouth with it. Use this twice a day to effectively reduce the swelling in your gums.
You can also make use of hydrogen peroxide to treat gum swelling. Hydrogen peroxide is known to reduce inflammation and pain from the gums. Furthermore, it will help in fighting and killing of germs inside the mouth. For oral health, always remember to make use of food grade, 3-percent hydrogen peroxide only.
